FORU MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 2, 2007 Present: Kevin Davis, Cynthia Harwood, Roland Holzwarth, Hank Hotze,Bill Patterson, Barbara Popp, Barbara Schwathe, Margie Welch Hank reported on the meeting with City Parks Advisory Board which he and Kevin attended. The board reportedly is very much interested in the same goals as FORU and very supported of FORU our efforts. There is a city fund which sets aside funds for the acquisition of land for parks – which mainly concentrates on river corridor areas. It was suggested to establish a 5 years plan, including identifying sites which we would like to be protected or developed for recreational / protected areas. Discussion followed on the proposal of an event in which we introduce FORU and its goals to the public, including inviting other organizations to this meeting. Also discussed possible venues such as library, City Council Chambers as well as possible dates. Our presentation to the City of FORU's mission statement, goals and wish list to be the central point of such a meeting plus a slide show and a speaker. However, it was agreed that such a meeting needs more lead time and preparation and should not be scheduled until we have established a set of By-Laws, an organizational structure and assigned Officers and/or a Board. A meeting on 1/9/2007 at Alpine Bank, East Main , 7:00 pm scheduled : By-Laws Hank will provide By-Law outlines - Bill will e-mail him UVA By-Laws as samples Roland will submit By-Laws of Whole Life Network Bill suggested that instead of Board of Directors it would be simpler to have Pres., VP, Sec/Treasurer plus Committee Chairs. Other possibilities considered were to have a Board with rotating Chairmanship or Board with limited Terms – to leave the possibility of being able to include members who are joining at a later date who may have more experience and exposure.

It was also discussed that other organizations need to be approached to support our efforts and possibly join Board (if any) or committees for specific projects.
